Hello Fellow bloggers, today kea had a task called " How to ... Challenge. this challenge was to show a skill or hobby you have learned over lockdown. I have made a challenge to show you called Subtraction of fractions. Subtraction of fractions is when you have to subtract the numerator and the denominator. You also have to find the LCM or least common multiple meaning the number closest to it. Here is a tutorial showing you how to solve it.
So my challenge for you is to solve this equation ( this / equals the line in the fraction. )
8 5/4 - 4 8/9 =? Use the steps I showed before - it will help. And for a clue the LCM is 36 because 9 x 4=36 and 4 x 9 = 36.
Tēnā koe Margaux, thank you for making your video on subtracting mixed numbers in fractions. I enjoyed how you took the time to explain each step and the importance of keeping the numerator the same. The example you gave at the end of how you could continue to simplify an answer was a great follow up. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteKa pai Margaux. It's always great to see some maths on blogs and Jamboard was a great choice so that you can show your thinking. Is the answer 4 13/36?
ReplyDeleteI may be wrong to my calculations but that is not the right answer - get how youve gotten 4 13/36 but I think you forgot to reduce the 8 down to 7 and bring the 4. 7-4=3 I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply Margaux. I think what made it tricky for me was that 8 5/4 = 9 1/4. So I reduced the 9 back down to 8. So I still think I might be right. What do you think?
DeleteThats great - I made this equation so it gives the reader a challenge. I think your getting better. :)
